Brisbane’s newest badminton club, the Brisbane Badminton Academy, is making waves with its inclusive and engaging programs. The club, based at the South Pine Sports Complex, has already become a hub for physical activity, community connection, and fun.
The standout success of the academy is its 'New Strings' programme, which has attracted over 100 players every Friday evening. Designed as a Badminton Come and Try initiative, the programme encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to pick up a racket and join in the fun.
Local councillor Cath Tonks recently attended a session and praised the program’s positive impact. "It’s incredible to see such a diverse group of people coming together through badminton. Programs like this not only promote physical and mental well-being but also help integrate various ethnic groups into the local community," she said.
Councillor Tonks expressed her hope that the programme will continue to grow and that the academy can secure additional court space as its popularity expands.
The Brisbane Badminton Academy offers a range of sessions to cater to all age groups and skill levels:
- Tuesday: Adults’ session, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Wednesday: Juniors’ session, 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM
- Friday: 'New Strings' program, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the sport, the Brisbane Badminton Academy (BBA) provides a welcoming environment for everyone.
The ‘No Stings’ programme was supported and enabled by a Local Community Sports Grant from Moreton Bay Council.
